Sublimation Products

Sublimation products are specially prepared blanks for transferring artwork with a suitable dye-sublimation process. The products shown include mugs in different capacities, a drinks coaster and an insulated bottle. For business and organisational orders, the shape of the item should suit both the intended artwork and how the finished product will be used.

When choosing a product, consider its capacity, surface colour and the printable area of the specific model, not just its appearance. Sublimation does not work on every surface: hard goods must be suitably prepared or have an appropriate coating.

How to choose a sublimation product

Mugs: capacity, shape and colour details

Start by deciding on the mug capacity and its intended use. Compare the 200 ml sublimation mug with the 330 ml ceramic sublimation mug. The difference goes beyond drink capacity: the shape of the cup and handle also affects artwork placement. The Pix 330 ml coloured sublimation mug offers another option; before choosing it, check how its coloured details relate to the actual printable area.

Coaster or insulated bottle?

For a smaller, standalone design, consider the LIENZO sublimation coaster. If use on the move matters more, the 500 ml insulated sublimation bottle is a different type of product. With a coaster, check the space available for artwork; with a bottle, also consider the curved surface and where printing is feasible on that model. The same artwork layout should not automatically be used on both.

Material suitability and colour appearance

Being described as ceramic or metal does not, by itself, mean an item is suitable for sublimation. Hard surfaces need an appropriate polymer coating; with other materials, compatibility with the process is what matters. Surface colour also affects the result: sublimation inks do not create an opaque white base, so the colour of the product can influence the appearance of artwork. A light surface and a coloured one should not be treated as interchangeable.

Artwork size and production requirements

Before confirming a product, prepare artwork in a sufficiently high-quality file and specify the preferred placement and approximate print size. The printable area may be smaller than the entire outer surface, especially near handles, edges or curved sections. Transfer time, temperature and pressure depend on the blank and equipment, so instructions for the specific product must be followed. For suitable blanks, Gajcom can help check artwork and agree on production details based on the model, design and order quantity.

Frequently asked questions

Can an ordinary mug be used for sublimation?

Not automatically. A regular mug without a suitable sublimation coating is not equivalent to one specifically prepared for this process. Check the suitability of the chosen item rather than relying on its ceramic appearance.

Can the handle or inside of a mug also be printed?

The label “sublimation mug” does not establish this. The printable area depends on the coating, geometry and production method. Check the permitted print area of the individual model before preparing artwork.

Can photographs and multicolour artwork be sublimated?

Yes. Dye sublimation can reproduce multicolour designs and photographs on compatible blanks. Good results also depend on the quality of the source file and adapting the design to the actual printable surface.

How should a printed item be cleaned?

Care requirements depend on the specific item and its coating. Do not assume every sublimation mug or bottle is dishwasher-safe; follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the selected model.
