Softshell jackets

Softshell jackets are a practical outer layer for work, travel between sites and activities where freedom of movement matters. This category includes the Orion model in men’s and women’s versions. When choosing, consider the fit, intended use and the weather conditions you expect to encounter.

As a type of garment, a softshell generally combines flexibility and breathability with some protection against wind and light rain, but performance varies between versions. Water resistance, lining and other technical details should therefore be checked for each individual product; the term softshell does not, by itself, mean fully waterproof.

Choosing the right Orion version

The current range includes the Orion men’s softshell jacket and Orion women’s softshell jacket. Their names alone do not establish identical measurements, details or colour availability. For team orders, check the available sizes and the size chart for each version separately.

Fit and layering

When selecting a size, consider not just chest measurements but also room for a T-shirt, jumper or other midlayer. The jacket should not pull across the shoulders when reaching forward, while an excessively loose fit can also affect comfort. Comparing measurements with a well-fitting garment is often useful.

Details for everyday wear

Before ordering, check the collar design, pockets, any hood and jacket length where these are specified for the chosen model. Accessible pockets can matter for field work, while flexibility and adjustability can be important when moving frequently. These features should not automatically be assumed for both versions.

Softshells compared with other outer layers

Fleece or softshell?

Fleece jackets are particularly useful as warmer midlayers or in dry conditions, while softshells are generally designed to provide more protection as an outer layer. If retaining warmth matters more than protection from wind, consider layering rather than simply swapping one jacket for another.

When is rain protection the better choice?

For prolonged or heavier rain, look for clothing with explicitly stated waterproof performance and suitable construction. Rain ponchos and rain jackets offer a different solution for wet weather. Water-repellent fabric is not the same as a fully waterproof jacket, especially when seams and zips lack suitable protection.

What about hybrid jackets?

Hybrid jackets combine different materials or construction zones, so their performance during movement and in cold or windy conditions may vary. They are worth comparing when you want a different balance of warmth and mobility; the actual result depends on each model’s design.

Adding a logo to a softshell jacket

For coordinated team clothing, adding a logo or text may be appropriate, but the selected jacket’s surface, construction and fabric must first be assessed. Gajcom offers different methods on suitable textiles, including DTF printing and machine embroidery, provided they are appropriate for the specific item. Expected quantity, artwork and intended logo placement are useful details when requesting a quote.

Frequently asked questions

Can a softshell be worn over fleece?

Yes, if the cut and size allow comfortable layering. Fleece can add warmth while the softshell serves as the outer layer; check that the combination still allows unrestricted movement.

How should sizes be selected for a team order?

Collect size requirements for each wearer and compare them with the selected model’s size chart, where available. Matching size labels on men’s and women’s versions do not necessarily indicate identical measurements or fit.

What information is needed for branding?

It helps to provide the logo or other artwork, the expected number of jackets and the preferred design size and position. Before production, the chosen area and fabric must be checked for compatibility with an appropriate decoration method.

How should a branded jacket be cared for?

Follow the care label on the selected garment and any additional instructions for the applied decoration. Washing, drying or ironing temperatures cannot safely be determined from the word softshell alone, as fabrics and decoration methods differ.
